Eagle Scout Project – Westcreek Nature Trail
On the morning of 20 May, 2017, over 50 people, including many Westcreek residents, gathered at the Community Center to help Christian Goff with his Eagle Project. His Eagle project involved restoring and clearing a ¾ mile Nature trail behind the Community Center. Everyone helped in different ways – some trimmed branches out of the way, some shoveled and raked the trail clear, some placed rocks to line the edges, and some ran water to everyone else. After over 200 man hours of hard work, the project was finished.
The Nature trail originally was cleared over 8 years ago, but then fell into disrepair as part of the trail was fenced off. After receiving permission from the Board of Directors and funding for supplies and food, Christian set out to prepare for the day. He contacted several area organizations including the National Honors Society at Brennan, local Scout groups, local Church groups, and military organizations to solicit their service. He also arranged food for breakfast from Los Balitos Taco Shop and lunch from Little Caesar’s Pizza. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day. We even got a little rain to help us cool off. The next week, Christian, along with several board members, walked the trail and admired the work that was done.
We look forward to seeing you out enjoying the nature trail by walking, running or biking. If the trail is well used, more amenities may be added such as picnic tables along the way
