Call for Help!

Your community needs your help.  There are five important committees that need membership and support from community members:

  • Bylaws Ad-hoc Committee (reviewing and rewriting our bylaws to make them comply with our latest Texas State laws)
  • Public Safety Committee (identifying methods of making our neighborhoods safer)
  • Landscape Committee (designing landscape solutions and ideas for the common areas within Westcreek)
  • Pool Ad-hoc Committee (developing programs and establishing rules for the use of our community pools, a sub-committee under Sports and Park Committee).

These committees do not take up too much of your time and your input is critical to the success of our community.  Please volunteer and be an active member of our community and help us continue to make Westcreek a great place to live and raise our families.  Contact the staff at our Community Center if you are interested in serving on any of these committees.  Thank you.

Sports Park Improvements

Starting Monday May 21, 2012 the Sports Park fields will be closed for at least 30 days. The irrigation system and fields will be repaired during this time.  The Tot Lot, Tennis courts, Basketball court, and swimming pools will be available for use. Thank you for your cooperation during the improvement to the facilities.

Registrations-Swimming Lessons, Water Aerobics, and Volleyball

VWOA is accepting registrations for swim lessons (6 months and up), Water Aerobics, and adult volleyball (ages 16 and up).  Visit our website www.villagesofwestcreek.com or the office for more information.

Annual Picnic

Last Saturday’s Annual picnic was our biggest one yet; we served over 1000 residents! In comparison, we served just over 700 residents in 2011. The success of the event has grown every year, and we are very appreciative to our volunteers who helped make it success. We would like to extend our gratitude to Brennan High School ROTC, John Jay High School ROTC, SMASH, Lucy’s Body Shop, and Olympic Karate. We would like to apologize to any resident who arrived after the food ran out. We did plan for an increase from last year, but the number of residents who attended was larger than anticipated. We will again increase our numbers for next year to accommodate this growing community tradition.

Entertainment Coupon Books Are Still Available

The VWOA Sports Park committee has additional entertainment coupon books for sale. The cost is $20.00 per book and includes great discounts for many local businesses. They can be purchased at the office. The proceeds from the book sales will go to enhancing the VWOA Sports Park and amenities. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Office Closed

The VWOA office will be closed Monday May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day.

VWOA Pools Are Open

The VWOA pools are open. Please refer to our website www.villagesofwestcreek.com for the complete schedule and list of pool rules.

Stage 2 Water Restrictions

This does affect all of the neighborhoods in the Villages of Westcreek.

SAWS hires off duty law enforcement officers to enforce these rules. If you are new to the San Antonio area these rules are strictly enforced by SAWS.

Watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler is allowed only once a week from 3-8 a.m. and 8-10 p.m. on your designated watering day as determined by your address:

Last Digit
of Street
0 or 1 Monday
2 or 3 Tuesday
4 or 5 Wednesday
6 or 7 Thursday
8 or 9 Friday
No watering on weekends with a sprinkler, soaker hose or irrigation system. Areas without a street address, such as medians and neighborhood entryways, water on Wednesday.

SAWS recommends that irrigation system settings be checked to ensure they are utilized on the correct day during the designated hours. Visit www.saws.org/conservation for more information, or call 210-704-SAVE (7283) to schedule an appointment.

Customer service inquiries: service@saws.org.

Web site issues: webmaster@saws.org.

Positions Open

VWOA is now accepting applications for the following positions:

Superintendent of Parks and Recreation

Please stop by the office for an employment application form.

The Villages of Westcreek is now on Facebook. If you have a Facebook account, you can look us up and “like” our Facebook page to receive updates and information about your community.

Standards Tips

The VWOA Office receives telephone calls and emails from residents of Westcreek who complain about the appearance of their neighbor’s backyards, which is appreciated because we are not able to see the backyards most of the time. But please do not wait to let us know the grass and weeds have gotten to the point where the grass is higher than the six foot fence. If we receive a complaint, a Courtesy Notice & Friendly Reminder will be given to the offending resident and they will be give the initial ten day time frame to correct the standards violation.

Several of our neighborhoods have the sidewalk right next to the curb and the street; this is not a parking spot for your vehicles. The sidewalks are to be kept clear of vehicles, trash cans and basketball poles for pedestrian foot traffic.

Keep Westcreek Beautiful.  Do not litter. Please take a moment to dispose of any litter you may find.

Please remember the Bexar County leash law is in effect throughout our community. All pets must be on a leash and not roaming freely.

Public Safety Tip

Could the Fire Department or EMS access your house through your garage, front living room or even from the back door of your home if they had too? One of the things the TV Show Hoarders never discusses is the access of emergency personnel into a home with a lot of clutter and junk piled up in it. The time it takes for First Responders to make access to a medical patient or a fire location could make the difference between minor or serious fire damage or a person living or dying. The Texas Department of Transportation is conducting a traffic study on Hwy 1604 in front of the Villages of Westcreek to see if there is enough data to support lowering the Speed Limit in this area. We have had some very serious accidents at the corner of Hwy 1604 and Military Drive West recently. The association did contact Representative Garza’s office and they were able to get this study started.

Upcoming Meetings

Saturday June 16, at 10:00 a.m. the Strategic Planning Committee will hold a training session in the conference room. All are welcome to attend.

Mintco, the subcontractor for AT&T will need access to certain backyards. Over the next several weeks, Mintco crews will be working in the Villages of Westcreek. The crews will need to access backyard easements so crew members will be leaving door hangers. Should you receive one, we ask that you please make arrangements or accommodations for the crew members to have access.

Once the work is complete, they will mend any damage caused to your lot during this process.

If you, the homeowner, have any questions you may call Oscar Hernandez with Mintco at 210-634-9055.
